- En presente trabajo expondré un análisis de la epéntesis en pame norte (PN) con base en un marco de fonología no lineal en el que se enfatiza el hecho de que este fenómeno es, en principio, de naturaleza prosódica del que dan cuenta las estrategias de silabificación, y no solamente una regla de inserción de segmentos. Los datos aportados por la epéntesis en PN corroboran las hipótesis que al respecto han sido formuladas por Itô (1989), Lapointe y Fenstein (1982), Bell y Bybee (1978), Selkirk (1982) y Blevins (1995). Por otra parte, el análisis desarrollado aquí presenta al PN como otro caso excepcional de la llamada “doble epéntesis” (McCarthy y Prince 1986, 1995, Itô 1989) que consiste en la aparición contigua de dos unidades epentéticas, un fenómeno tipológicamente marcado que ofrece evidencia a favor del tratamiento prosódico.
