- Resumen
- The Museo del Caracol History Gallery was the first modern museum in Mexico. Its spiral-shaped building was pioneering because it was specifically designed as a museum, which enabled art to be incorporated into the landscape and the scenes forming part of the site’s collection. Architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, who designed the project, commissioned artist José Chávez Morado to create a work to welcome people to the venue. Although a stained-glass entrance was originally conceived for the museum, it was decided that its exposure to the elements meant a screen cast in bronze would be better due to its resistance to sun, rain, and wind. The result was that the long-standing tradition of Mexican muralism was transmuted into metal.
