Al reverso:"16126 INTERIOR PF THE CATHEDRAL, CITY OF MEXICO The general plan of the Cathedral is that of a Greek cross, with two great naves and three aisles. Its dimensions are sufficient to give to the entire structure the grace and dignity so necessary to a Cathedral. Its is 426 feet in length by 197 in width, and its towers rise to the height of 204 feet. The broad streets and extensive Plaza before the Cathedral add to is impressivness and greatly increase its charm. The interior of the Cathedral is in keeping with the beauty of its exterior. There are twenty side-chapels and a magnificent high altar supported by fine marble columns and surrounded by a tombac balustrade with sixty two statues in tombac carrying elaborate candelabra made from a rich alloy of gold, silver and cooper. The choir is an elaborate and beautifully carved affair which is enclosed by heavy tombac railings, imported from Macao, and weighing 26 tons. The splendid vaulted roof of the Cathedral is supported by twenty Doric columns, each of which is 180 feet in height. The whole interior is richly carved and gilded and the walls are covered with many rare paintings. In this Cathedral the ill-fated Maximilian, Archduke of the House of Hapsburg of Austria, was crowned Emperor of Mexico in June, 1864. Here he worshipped until his Empire was overthrown and he himself executed in 1867". La Catedral Metropolitana cuenta con veinte capillas y una mágnifico altar mayor detenido por columnas de mármol y rodeadas por una tumba balustrada con 62 estatuas cargando elaborados candelabros hechos de una aleación de oro, plata y cobre. El coro es un hermoso ejemplo de esculpido, el cual está delimItado por un enrejado, importado de Macao, con un peso de 26 toneladas. El esplendido techo abovedado es sostenido por 20 columnas dóricas, cada una de las cuales mide 180 pies de altura. En este Catedral, Maximiliano de Habsburgo fue coronado emperador de México, en junio de 1864. V.F. 469426.
